Keeping Your Finger on the Pulse of Workforce1
I just finished reading the Career Bulletin to get an idea of this week’s hot jobs offered by Workforce1. The Career Bulletin offers a sampling of current job opportunities at Workforce1, and I thought this week offered a good representation of what’s out there. There were General Manager, tutor and Licensed Practical Nurse positions listed, just to name a few.
You can learn about current job opportunities available through Workforce1 in the Career Bulletin and through other resources like Twitter, Facebook, Online Job Postings, and any of our Workforce1 centers located throughout NYC.
And you can learn about hot jobs here on the blog. I regularly keep up-to-date on the jobs available at Workforce1, so I wanted to share my insight into openings beyond those listed on the Career Bulletin. I pulled together the top five occupations that we’re hiring for this week – head to your local Workforce1 to take advantage of these opportunities:
Top 5 Occupations at Workforce1 this Week
- Teachers and Instructors
- Food Preparation Workers
- Registered Nurses
- Receptionists, Information Clerks and Administrative Assistants
- Bookkeeping and Accounting Clerks
Kate Janeski is Director of Recruitment at the NYC Department of Small Business Services, the agency that provides the Workforce1 service to prepare and connect qualified candidates to job opportunities in New York City. Her “Get Hired” column runs every Monday on the Workforce1 Career Blog. If you have a question or comment for Kate, drop her a note in the comment section below. I keep applying for positions on the workforce1 website and NEVER get called in. At best, I get an email saying my resume is being reviewed and that’s the last I hear about it. I just attempted to apply for a Security Guard job at a library that is listed on your site. The website said I could not apply for it because I already have a job application in the queue. But then, a short time later, I get an email saying that my application WAS submitted for that job. This makes no sense to me. Either I can submit more than one application or I can’t. Not that I expect to hear from Workforce1, regardless. By the way, not that I was given a chance to give this information, but I have a NYS Security License. I’m a college grad. I have a good work history. AND I have a NYS Security License. If I’m not qualified to interview for that job, I’d sure love to know why.
I keep applying for positions listed on Workforce1 and NEVER get a response beyond an automatic email. Worse yet, I just attempted to apply for a Special Officer/Security Guard job listed on the site. As I was doing so, I received an error warning saying I’d already had an application in the queue and could not apply for this position until the other is resolved. Then a short time later I get an email from Workforce1 saying I WAS submitted. So this was confusing, to say the least. Also, I was not given a chance to mention that I have just received my NYS Security Guard license. I have a BA, a good work history and a newly minted Security Guard License. I think I’m qualified to interview for this job. It would be nice if, instead of me applying for another Workforce1 job, getting an automatic email acknowledging the submission and then never hearing anything again, I actually got an interview. If anyone reading this could make that happen, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
