NYC Council Passes Bill Protecting Unemployed (via the Wall Street Journal)

The New York City Council voted Wednesday to ban discrimination against job seekers who are unemployed. The bill, which would provide the strongest protections for unemployed job seekers in the nation, passed 44-4 despite the objections of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who said he feared “a rash of lawsuits” from rejected applicants. A step in the right direction, but how does one contest the “over qualified” age discrimination tactic? Maybe our Mayor would care to chime in on this one.

Hi Dan, the over-qualified issue is a big one – as is age discrimination. This is insane! Why would businesses want to interview anyone who is unemployed now? Ugh, does anybody think outside themselves at all anymore?
